Gleadell Agriculture has strengthened its experienced Yorkshire-based team with the appointment of Sophie Moore as farm trader.
The appointment takes the number of staff in the York office to six and will help Gleadell, an independent major trader of grain, seed and fertiliser, expand its farmer customer base in the region.
“Gleadell is well known for providing a first-class, blue-chip grain marketing service to farmers,” said Sophie. “I am very excited to be joining such a dynamic team and helping it to build its reputation as a trusted partner for farmers.
“We already trade with over 1500 leading arable businesses from South Yorkshire to the Scottish borders, and supply just about all the major grain consumers across the region.
“One of my key responsibilities will be to purchase grain, oilseeds and pulses from farmers, trading with existing accounts and developing new business.
“I will also be offering growers our leading seed portfolio, including some of the latest combinable crop varieties from leading breeders, as well as cutting-edge fertiliser products from domestic and European manufacturers.”
Huddersfield-born Sophie worked for NFU Mutual for a year as a customer service adviser working on new business accounts, after working in an accountancy practice for four years.
“I was drawn to the agricultural sector because I enjoy speaking with farmers,” she says. “I enjoyed helping them in my previous insurance role and look forward to using my rapidly increasing market knowledge to help optimise their trading decisions.”
Regional manager Graham Hatton said: “We are very pleased to welcome Sophie into the northern team to help us consolidate our existing business and to work with new customers across the area.
“Gleadell is owned 50/50 by ADM and the French agricultural cooperative group Invivo, both leading global players in the agribusiness sector. This gives us an excellent insight into the latest market developments, invaluable as we approach the uncertainties of Brexit.
“To enable farmers to take full advantage of these developments, we need a first-class team of dedicated staff. Sophie’s appointment will help us to build our reputation of being a trusted and safe partner in what are changeable times for all market participants.”
