On Monday 13th, Franek Smith was presented with the “Top New Talent 2017” award at a ceremony located at The Royal Society of Arts, London.
Franek Smith, a trader for Dunns (Long Sutton) Ltd, received the award along with 31 other key young people in the food trade. This was for his work associated with pulses, including trading the products for Dunns, and being the British Edible Pulse Association’s industry President. 2016 was “International Year of Pulses” as ordained by the UN, and Franek spent considerable time working both inside and outside the pulse industry to promote how healthy, affordable, sustainable and nutritious pulses are.
The winners for “Top New Talent” were singled out from an extensive list of candidates and Franek was both “shocked and delighted” to win the award.
The Grocer has been running the competition since 2013 after recognising an ageing workforce in the food sector. Since the inception of the competition, they have had some truly excellent results and some unique and exceptional winners.
Franek said: “The Grocer is a prestigious publication and I feel truly honoured to have received this award. I am also flattered as I myself did not apply, this came from one our Dunns’ customers. This shows how strong our customer relations are and we want to build on this moving into the future.” He also said: “Pulses are increasingly becoming important in a modern diet, not only as whole pulses, but as inclusions in recipes and as fractionated parts. I look forward to pushing our industry forward for the foreseeable future.”
