Gleadell Agriculture in conjunction with Kerry Ingredients invited a group of local growers to visit the Kerry Ingredients’ processing facilities in Gainsborough to demonstrate the supply chain in action.

Gleadell Agriculture has built a long-term trading relationship with Kerry Ingredients over the past two decades as the companies have developed and grown together.

Gleadell has been involved in grain merchanting and shipping in Lincolnshire since 1880 and has built a loyal customer base in over 135 years of trading

The wheat produced by these local farmers and delivered through Gleadell is milled into flour and then manufactured into breadcrumbs and coatings for the Kerry Group’s own products and third-party branded products.

Kerry Ingredients is keen to work with local farmers, keeping food miles down and supporting the local economy. Regional provenance is increasingly important to some customers and the wheat supplied by Lincolnshire farmers is being used to make coatings for fish products in Grimsby.

The farmer suppliers visited Gleadell’s Hemswell Cliff head offices prior to the mill tour where Jonathan Lane, Gleadell’s trading director, gave the growers an update on current and future grain markets.

This included a global overview with information coming directly from Gleadell’s International shareholders, ADM and Invivo. Mr Lane said: “Having direct access to accurate information is key to understanding market direction.

“Our shareholders’ support helps put us in a well-informed position to be able to advise farmers.”

Jane Littlewood, Kerry Ingredients QC Manager praised the supply chain initiatives that had been built between the companies. Mrs Littlewood said: “Gleadell has worked closely with us and local growers to ensure that we are able to deliver quality products to our customers.”

Local farmer and haulier John Ward has been a long-term supplier to the Gainsborough mill and was pleased to hear that his Lincolnshire wheat was being used in the manufacture of locally sourced produce.

He said he found Gleadell’s market information very useful when it came to making marketing decisions.
