A 2-row winter barley taking yields to new levels
Giving yields comparable to conventional 6-row winter barley varieties,
Saffron brings new standards to winter barley 2 row performance.
Offering growers a superb agronomic package, Saffron is easy to
grow with excellent disease and straw characters. Grain is bold
and bright with good specific weight and low screenings.

Moderately short straw is very stiff without PGR, giving security
in the field, requiring only a simple PGR programme in lodging risk
situations.
A free tillering variety, Saffron produces abundant good ears which
all produce good grain. This tillering character additionally gives
the ability to recover from thin or gappy stands, later drilling
or poor establishment.

Saffron performs well on all soil types with sowing from mid September
onward, with winter hardiness considered to be good. Saffron has
medium maturity similar to Pearl.
Saffron gives the best available combination of net blotch and
brown rust resistance plus good Rhynchosporium and moderate mildew
resistance. Like all feed barley varieties, to exploit the highest
yield potential a reasonably robust fungicide input is recommended.
