Group One

A C Barrie
Is a low yielding high quality variety which has been imported from Canada and grown successfully in the UK both in field and commercial trials over the past 7 years.  Gleadell have a contract to supply the variety to Rank Hovis for inclusion in their 100% British wheat loaves and now has a growers club for the variety.  The variety has excellent grain characteristics but needs careful management to be grown to the best of its' capabiities. Group Two

Tybalt
Tybalt – is the highest yielding spring sown group 2 variety – however does have lower quality characteristics however millers will use the variety in low levels in their grist.  Tybalt is 6% higher yielding than Ashby in spring trials and has a good disease profile – with good resistances to mildew, yellow and brown rust.

Ashby
Is a Nabim group 2 spring wheat and is very popular with growers, the variety is suited to both late autumn and spring drilling – and has excellent grain characteristics, with 12.8% protein in late autumn sown situations against Einstein at 12.2.  The variety has good resistance to yellow rust and mildew. Paragon
Is the only nabim group 1 spring wheat on the CEL recommended list.  The variety remains popular with growers due to its quality characteristics. The variety has good resistance to yellow and brown rust.  The variety has long straw however it benefits from excellent grain quality – with protein content of 13.6% and hagberg of 290 seconds.

Group Three

Belvoir
Is a high yielding group 4 feed variety which in spring trials yields 2% higher than Tybalt and 14% ahead of Paragon.  It is also well placed in late autumn sown trials where is competes well with the conventional winter wheat feed varieties.  Belvoir has good resistance to yellow and brown rust.
