Malting Barley
Malting barley history
Gleadell
is one of the UK leading malting barley trading companies, internationally
respected, with a wealth of malting history. Established over 120
years ago Gleadell was in fact a maltster, owning a maltings in
Kirton in Lindsey in Lincolnshire. As a maltster back in the 1880's
Gleadell was respected for its innovative ideas. This innovation
has carried on to the present day.
The latter part of the 20th century saw the company grow its reputation
for buying and supplying quality malting barley and was trading
around 13,000t per annum by 1997. 1998 saw the company start to
export malting barley in volume, working alongside its shareholder
A.C Toepfer - the worlds leading malting barley trader.
In 2000 Gleadell bought RME grain from Muntons Malt. This purchase
came with a long-term supply agreement. Muntons saw a need for an
UK trading partner who they could trust to work together with the
aim of showing long term trading benefits to both companies. Today
the company is buying over 150,000t annually and is one of the leading
players in UK malting barley.
