Key Benefits

  • The gold standard for breadmaking - high premiums available for Hereward's excellent quality
  • "An excellent breadmaking variety, still popular with Millers" NABIM wheat guide 2007
  • Consistent combination of high protein and specific weight
Agronomy

Hereward has consistently outperformed Malacca in terms of specific weight and % protein in harvest years 2002-2006 ( source: HGCA Quality Surveys ). Resistance to sprouting is moderate: persistent rainfall prior to harvest can push Hagberg values down. It is therefore critical to ensure that harvesting Hereward takes priority in catchy harvests and to consider pre-harvest glyphosate treatment.

Contract growing schemes are available and further premiums may be offered by some millers for Hereward's excellent quality.
