GRAIN MERCHANT BRINGS POOL MEMBERS EXCELLENT RETURNS
The UK wheat market has been trading in a very narrow range over
the last quarter, with ex-farm prices only fluctuating between £61
and £66.
Announcing its Oct-Dec 2005 Pool results, Gleadell Agriculture's
feed wheat pool has performed particularly well in this climate:
the average price paid to members was £65.95, with highest
prices reaching £67.80. Due to the company's recent expansion
more tonnes have been traded to domestic consumers than ever before,
which also resulted in Gleadell being able to pass on quality and
location premiums to over 60% of feed wheat pool members.
And in a year when the full specification premium for Class 1's
is £5 to £8 the milling wheat pool put in an excellent
performance - achieving premiums of £2.27 to £13.58
over feed for varying qualities of wheat. While the OSR pool brought
its members an average return of £140.13, maintaining a steady
price as prices began to fall through November and December.
Gleadell's managing director David Sheppard says the company consistently
achieves the best pool prices around.
“Very few other merchants have the same track record of success
that we have - and I cannot think of a cooperative or farmer-controlled
business whose track record comes even close. This is due to our
excellent market information and ability to access all markets both
within the UK and abroad. For instance we have secured prices of
over £70 per tonne for Einstein, which in the context of this
season is superb.
“Our Pool members return year after year because they know they're
in safe hands with us. Because of this we have seen Pool tonnage
rise 30% year on year for the 2006 season, which is almost fully
allocated.”
